If you're heading to Rice-Eccles Stadium, set an early alarm. No. 3 Utah (8-0, 5-0) hosts No. 9 BYU (7-1, 4-1) at 10 a.m. MST on ABC, the first-ever top-10 game in the rivalry.
It's also the first 10 a.m. kick for the rivalry since 1996. Utah fan Stuart Spencer's tailgate group plans to arrive the night before, and BYU coach Kalani Sitake said the menu is "probably more breakfast stuff."
Big 12 title hopes ride on it. A Utah win would make the Utes 6-0 in league play, while a BYU loss would give the Cougars a second conference loss and hand Utah the tiebreaker.
- Utah's last three: at No. 22 Arizona, at TCU, vs. West Virginia
- If Utah wins: it can afford one loss in its last three
- If BYU loses: it needs Texas Tech and Houston to lose
Utah's Devon Dampier and BYU's Bear Bachmeier are both dual-threat quarterbacks who've hurt defenses with their feet.
Dampier has the passing edge, and Bachmeier has more rushing touchdowns
| Dampier, Utah | Measure | Bachmeier, BYU |
|---|---|---|
| 1,876 | Passing yards | 1,750 |
| 18 | Passing touchdowns | 12 |
| 393 | Rushing yards | 336 |
