  • Jeffrey R. Holland, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, died Saturday at 3:15 a.m. MST at age 85 from kidney disease complications, according to a church release, leaving behind a legacy of education, family dedication & cherished service.  Daily Herald

  • Deseret News photojournalists captured 2025’s mix of sorrow and joy in a visual retrospective showing local moments like the July 4th celebration at LaVell Edwards Stadium and community gatherings across Provo (with images that also reflect citywide triumphs and challenges).  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • BYU professor Carling and his team are testing Great Salt Lake’s groundwater for selenium contamination from nearby mines to protect the lake’s birds and wildlife. The research is ongoing and uses thermal drones (a new tool) to locate seepages for water sampling.  Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tiffany Fransen, a 27-year-old from Highland, was diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia five years ago; the rare neurodegenerative disease affects her muscle control and daily activities, prompting her husband to adjust his job for family care.   • The 2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz XRT AWD impressed testers during a week-long drive around Utah County.
