  • Texas Tech fans donated to help Utah widow Katie Cornia following a head-on collision near Lehi on Nov. 26, when her husband Gavin died. Donations have surpassed $60K toward a $90K goal — meant to cover surgeries, rehabilitation and funeral costs — as she works on her recovery.  Deseret News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A freight train derailed early Thursday near Murray Central station, disrupting the Red and Blue TRAX lines and delaying FrontRunner schedules with a bus bridge set up between Fashion Place + Murray North, UTA said.  KUTV

  • Utah’s colleges awarded record numbers of degrees and certificates this fall as enrollment reached over 216,000, defying national trends that question college value. Westminster University and state leaders emphasize accessible net tuition and long-term benefits for Utahns.  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cities in Utah County and Logan are offering rebates for those who swap gas-powered snowblowers and heating equipment for electric versions; residents can save up to $300 and should check with local public works for program details.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Provo City Council amended the 2023 Parks and Recreation master plan for Slate Canyon Park to remove options for residential development. The unanimous 7&0 vote preserves the park as open space for community recreation.  KUTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said ESPN left BYU out of new playoff rankings, calling the omission disrespectful. The Cougars prepare to play Texas Tech for the Big 12 championship on Saturday at 10 a.m. MST, which would grant an automatic playoff berth if they win.  Deseret News
  • During Tuesday’s Dan Patrick Show, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young labeled coach changes 'madness' amid rumors Kalani Sitake may head to Penn State, warning his departure would hurt the team.
