ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Rocky Mountain Power proposed a 4.5% rate increase that may add an average $3.70 to monthly bills for 10 years or until $1.09 billion is collected to fund a wildfire liability insurance account. The Utah Public Service Commission will review the proposal later this month—critics warn that continued reliance on coal could lead to further hikes. Deseret News

- ➤ The UDOT Incident Management Team and Highway Safety Office reported that unsecured loads and roadway debris have caused thousands of crashes and nine deaths since 2019—troopers urged drivers to keep a safe distance from trucks with trailers or dump beds. Officials spent nearly $3 million on debris cleanup and passed a new law to increase penalties for unsecured loads as they prepare a public awareness campaign to improve safety. KUTV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital reported a 66.7% rise in e-bike injuries among children with head injuries being the most common and fewer than one third wearing helmets. Salt Lake eBikes and health officials warn that riders must use helmets and reflective vests — Utah law also sets age limits on more powerful models to help keep riders safe. FOX 13

- ➤ UCF ended its season with a 5 to 7 record after losing to BYU 41 to 21 at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Nov 29, even though they led 14 to 0 early in the game. Coach Scott Frost praised BYU coach Kalani Sitake and said he hopes his team will improve by bringing in the right players—helping them build a stronger future. Deseret News
- ➤ BYU men’s basketball stayed at number nine in the AP Top 25 for the third week — Michigan moved up to number three in the latest update. Other teams also shifted positions as the season continued. KUTV
- ➤ The new Utah 2034 Winter Games logo and name, launched Nov. 24, received mixed reviews as organizers plan to use social media to explain its design that reflects Utah’s landscapes and history—while Gov. Spencer Cox stated he finds the edgy look too bold. One designer said the shapes were inspired by local features and Indigenous art, and officials expect public opinion to grow more positive as the back story is shared. Deseret News
- ➤ On Monday evening, national reporters said BYU head coach Kalani Sitake is a top candidate to lead Penn State football after they fired James Franklin, although no deal has been reached. Sitake said he remains focused on this weekend's Big 12 title game while discussions continue. Deseret News
