CULTURE NEWS

  • The First Presidency announced on November 21 that young women in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may start full-time missions at age 18 after finishing high school. The change replaces the old rule of starting at 19 and gives more young members the option to serve.  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brigham Young University research shows that large wildfires help forests recover by removing excess vegetation - a study of the 2019 Pole Creek fire found that mixed burn intensities resulted in faster tree regrowth despite herbivore browsing. The findings suggest that using fire as a management tool could improve forest regeneration in areas affected by long-term drought.  Daily Herald
