- ➤ Orem’s Center Stage Performing Arts has built a strong reputation as a training ground for 'Dancing With the Stars' pros (including Derek and Julianne Hough) by using disciplined, cross-trained dance methods. - ➤ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced it will end Saturday evening sessions starting in April at General Conference+ it will instead hold four daytime sessions for the meetings on the first weekends of April and October. FOX 13
- ➤ Utah fantasy author Brandon Sanderson is releasing a new starter pack for first-time readers on TikTok that bundles three books with exclusive covers and updated back descriptions - he will host a live session at 7 p.m. MST today to answer questions about the set. Deseret News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Utah lawmaker introduced a bill today to ban kratom & cited health data that shows a rise in overdose deaths linked to the drug, which is sold in local stores and gas stations. He argued that the easily available substance poses a serious risk to public health, while the American Kratom Association calls for regulation instead of a full ban. Deseret News
- ➤ State Sen. Mike McKell sponsored a bill that would ban kratom by criminalizing the sale and possession of its key alkaloids — mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. The proposal and its companion measure passed committee review and will return for debate when the legislative session begins. KUTV
- ➤ Several canyon roads in Utah County will close for winter; most gates will shut by November 30—depending on snowfall, while the lower gates on the south end Nebo Loop will close on December 15. The sheriff's office advises travelers to call the U.S. Forest Service before using these roads and not to park in front of closed gates—so emergency crews can reach people if needed. Daily Herald
- ➤ A poll released Wednesday showed that most Utah voters support a law to set a standard wage for state-funded construction projects, including the new North Building at the State Capitol, with Rep.
