  • Wyatt Christensen, a 16-year-old Hillcrest High junior who practiced for over a year, performed George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall during the Salute to Youth concert Wednesday night — marking his debut with the ensemble.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former senator Mitt Romney delivered the 2025 Romney Institute George W. Romney Lecture at BYU yesterday, urging the audience to live by core values to help heal a divided nation — stressing service, love and integrity as simple guides to overcome global challenges. He shared personal stories and pointed to leaders like Jesus Christ and Abraham Lincoln to show that following one’s values can bring hope during uncertain times.  Deseret News
  • Utah and six other Colorado River states tentatively agreed to continue working on a water-sharing framework—aiming for a deal by mid-February after missing a key federal deadline; Utah officials stressed the talks are crucial as the river supplies over one-quarter of the state’s water. Further meetings planned in the coming weeks will work to refine the framework and protect water rights.  Deseret News

  • A National Association of Realtors survey shows the typical first-time homebuyer is now 40, up from 38 last year, and Utah experts say local buyers face similar challenges with fewer affordable starter homes. Local realtors say Utahns struggle to enter the market as high prices and slow new home construction create delays—making it harder for first-time buyers to purchase a home.  Deseret News
