EDUCATION NEWS

  • Salt Lake Community College will offer free tuition and flexible online classes to elite athletes so they can train without pausing their education—Olympic hopeful Mia Manganello is using the program as she prepares for next winter games in Italy.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi said at the Utah Lake Symposium that the Utah Lake Authority will work to remove carp and water-stealing invasive plants from Utah Lake by 2034—steps expected to reduce harmful algal blooms and send more water to Great Salt Lake. The plan targets species that damage native vegetation, aiming to improve the lake’s health for local wildlife and recreation.  Deseret News

  • The Big 12 football power rankings show that BYU remains top at 8-0 after rallying to beat Iowa State while Utah moved up after a 53-7 win against Colorado. The Utes will face No-17 Cincinnati Saturday at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN as teams battle for a tighter conference race.  Deseret News
