COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is under construction with its foundation and framing complete—workers are now installing windows and attaching exterior sheathing boards to bring back a familiar landmark view. The project is estimated to finish by mid to late 2027 with an open house planned, and local residents watch as the new temple gradually replaces the old one. Daily Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. John Curtis backed the Fix Our Forests Act, which passed a Senate committee vote 18—5 with support from Gov. Spencer Cox and other Western leaders. The bipartisan bill will create a program to help communities in the wildland urban interface and improve forest management to reduce wildfire risks in the region. Deseret News
- ➤ On Friday, Congressman Mike Kennedy and state and federal officials toured the Don A. Christiansen Regional Water Plant in Orem (which serves 2 million people) to see how clean water flows from the Wasatch Mountains to the Provo River. Plant officials are replacing a pipeline (just over a mile long) near the Wasatch Fault to prepare for future earthquakes. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Utah leaders have extended the proposal deadline for Great Salt Lake water projects to Jan. 16th, 2026 due to an ongoing government shutdown—officials say more time is needed to coordinate with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The $53 million in grant funds will support projects that help the lake and its wetlands. Deseret News

- ➤ BYU assistant coach Matt Mitchell helped ready freshman Bear Bachmeier to start after senior Jake Retzlaff left the team—he coached Bachmeier through daily Zoom sessions and brought his experience from Snow College and Baylor to boost the Cougars’ play.
