- ➤ BYU made a new ice cream called 150 Swirl—created using ideas from students and staff—for its 150th birthday celebration. The flavor, which mixes white chocolate brownie with blue mint, is produced at the BYU Creamery and will be sold until next year. Deseret News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Research shows that drought is straining Utah agriculture with farms facing an expected annual loss of $791,000 and $46 per farm among 17,300 farms valued at $2.4 billion—efforts include state programs and new water-saving technology to help farmers and ranchers adjust as water levels in the Great Salt Lake drop. Local producers are urged to adapt their water use as the ongoing drought challenges the regional food supply. Deseret News

- ➤ Utah GOP lawmakers proposed a plan to cut gas prices by removing the longstanding tax break for refineries—shifting the tax from drivers to fuel producers. Representative Cal Roberts is drafting the bill, which would tax fuel destined for other states to help lower pump prices by 10 to 20 cents per gallon. KUTV
- ➤ As the government shutdown drags on, local groups in Provo report that key support for residents is dwindling—Provo’s HEAT utility assistance program has been suspended after serving about 470 requests with last year's $185,000 in funding.
