ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A mile-long section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Provo will be closed for about a month starting on Wednesday as crews clear wildfire debris from the Buckley Draw Fire burn scar. City officials said heavy equipment will restore the channel’s capacity to lower future flooding risks—keeping the area safe during cleanup. Deseret News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday the Legislature said they will appeal a court ruling that forced new congressional maps. The GOP insists it must have the final say in redistricting and plans to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the decision — a clear fight over power in government. Deseret News
- ➤ Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit on Monday challenging the Legislature’s redistricting bill and submitted new maps for review—arguing the new standards weaken Proposition 4’s ban on partisan gerrymandering. Both sides will submit briefs by Oct. 17 and attend a hearing on Oct. 23-24, with a final map to be chosen by Nov. 10—aiming to reduce municipal and county splits. Deseret News
