ECONOMY NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cherry Hill Elementary in Orem closed parts of its building and moved classes online Friday after a dead bat was found on the playground led officials to discover 20–30 bats nesting in the school. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is working to safely guide the bats out so students can return Tuesday. FOX 13
- ➤ Governor Spencer Cox signed a law in January 2023 that started the Utah Fits All Scholarship — which gives up to $6,000 for homeschooling children and $8,000 for private school students — using taxpayer funds. A lawsuit by the Utah Education Association later challenged its fairness, and the Legislature raised its budget to $122 million for the 2026–27 school year as critics worry that public schools may lose vital funding. - ➤ Members of Utah’s Colombian and Ecuadorian communities are petitioning for local consular offices—hoping to reduce long trips to remote consular centers and improve document processing—as their populations continue to grow. The petitions follow concerns that current services, like infrequent visits from distant consulates, are not meeting the high demand for assistance. Deseret News
