EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday, the U.S. News Best Colleges rankings showed that BYU dropped two spots to No. 110 and the University of Utah fell to No. 151, while Utah State University jumped 17 places to No. 242 & state leaders noted the changes reflect continued academic value despite shifting standings. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A report from the University of Utah said hosting the 2034 Winter Games will help Utah tackle issues like traffic, high housing costs, low reading scores, college graduations, water shortages, energy needs, and mental health. The report shows that with smart planning and investments, the Olympics can boost Utah’s strong economy—turning the event into a chance for real change. Deseret News
- ➤ A Turning Point USA tour will return to Utah on Sept. 30 with political leaders including Sen. Mike Lee, Gov. Spencer Cox, Rep. Andy Biggs, former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, and Alex Clark from the Real Alex Clark podcast at Utah State University where security measures are in place—this event comes nearly three weeks after Charlie Kirk was shot during a campus debate. - ➤ On Monday, Utah lawmakers held a public hearing to review five congressional maps — part of a court-ordered redistricting process — to be submitted to Judge Dianna Gibson by Oct. 6; several lawmakers and a Provo resident expressed concerns that the process did not fully respect the voter-approved guidelines of Proposition 4. - ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox spoke in Idaho during the Western Governors’ Association conference—he launched his Energy Superabundance campaign and called nuclear energy 'coming back in style.'
