CRIME NEWS
- ➤ One week after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on the UVU campus, students slowly returned to class amid ongoing fear—22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested and now faces charges that could lead to the death penalty. Daily Herald
- ➤ Utah school officials say foreign online groups use extortion tactics that trick children into sending private pictures and harming themselves, and threats have more than tripled in the past year — groups use games like Minecraft and Roblox to reach kids ages 8 to 17 — urging parents to discuss online safety. - ➤ Timpview High School canceled its Thursday assembly after receiving a social media threat, and Provo Police spotted the threat Wednesday and identified the source (though no arrest has been made) while increasing patrols at the school today. FOX 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday evening, Utahns gathered at Sundance Mountain Resort — riding the chairlift with candles to honor Robert Redford, a local icon for films and environmental work. The free ride requested a $5 donation to the Sundance Nature Alliance — which works to preserve the north fork of Provo Canyon. FOX 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Mortgage rates fell to a weekly average of 6.35% today, the lowest in nearly a year because weaker jobs reports and a Fed interest rate cut drove the drop. Local economists say home buyers in Provo may gain renewed opportunities for purchasing or refinancing as the market awaits the next jobs report at the start of October. KUTV

- ➤ At UVU, donations for a proposed memorial to honor Charlie Kirk have exceeded $90,000 while a student petition opposes the plan because it does not reflect the university's inclusive mission. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Legislature must deliver a draft congressional map by Sept. 25 for a 10-day public comment period with a special session vote on Oct. 6 so that the final map is ready by Nov. 10. Lawmakers, including committee chairs Sen. Scott Sandall and Rep. Candice Pierucci, are redrawing the map following a court ruling that nullified the previous one — a change driven by the Better Boundaries initiative. Deseret News
- ➤ Utah and the FTC, joined by a bipartisan group of state attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and Live Nation Thursday—alleging the companies deceived fans by showing lower ticket prices while brokers used fake accounts to bypass purchase limits and add extra fees. KUTV
- ➤ The Central Utah Water Conservancy District completed the Spanish Fork Santaquin Pipeline by placing the final 60-inch pipe in Santaquin on Sept 10, fulfilling its duty under the Central Utah Project to deliver water to local municipalities—this milestone capped years of planning and partnership.
