- ➤ A coalition of Utah groups launched the Turn Toward Each Other toolkit at the Capitol—aiming to help reduce community division after the fatal shooting of activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event. Daily Herald

- ➤ Film legend Robert Redford bought two acres in Provo Canyon in 1961 and later started Sundance—an independent film festival that boosted local tourism and created jobs. Former Gov. Gary Herbert praised him for his vision and for once encouraging him to run for Congress. Deseret News
- ➤ Robert Redford, the well-known actor, director and activist who loved Utah, died Tuesday at his Sundance home — his passing was honored by local figures like Gov. Spencer Cox and many in Hollywood who praised his role in independent film and conservation. His legacy will continue to inspire future storytellers in the film world. KUTV

- ➤ Today, as classes resume at Utah Valley University after a fatal shooting occurred last week during a speaking event, Amber Church has placed motivational signs along campus to help students feel safe. UVU and the FBI will provide victim services for those affected. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A recent survey shows that nearly three-quarters of Americans and 82% of Utahns tracked the news of Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting and believe his death will impact national politics—Utahns reported being more shocked by the event and more approving of Governor Cox’s response than the national average. The survey highlights a strong local reaction as political violence and shifting political views spark continued discussion. Deseret News
- ➤ The Utah Supreme Court denied the Legislature’s petition to block a judge’s decision that voided the 2021 congressional map—now a new map must be drawn following a process set to finish by Nov. 10 for the 2026 election. Legislative leaders and plaintiffs will take input from Utahns starting Sept. 25 as the redistricting process continues amid ongoing legal challenges. Daily Herald
