EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ BYU finished a nearly 900-page accreditation application for its School of Medicine with help from almost 200 experts, and the document focused on Jesus Christ. The application will be reviewed in October and Provo will host a site visit next spring or summer as the school plans to open with a class of 60 students in fall 2027. Deseret News

- ➤ After heavy rains on Aug. 27 caused a large mudslide that left a church covered in mud but intact, Provo officials said a 1,200-foot channel extension and debris basin will be built starting Sept. 15. They also plan storm drain upgrades—steps to protect against future 25-year storm events—so residents feel safe. Deseret News
- ➤ On Friday, Provo City officials said that a heavy storm after last month’s Buckley Draw Fire caused a 15-acre mudslide that damaged a church—volunteers cleared debris quickly and new storm defenses will start next week to protect the city. FOX 13
- ➤ Gov. Cox has appointed Brett Varoz to the five-member parole board to fill the vacancy left by Scott Stephenson's resignation — Varoz is the chief hearing officer at the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole and awaits Senate confirmation. KUTV
