CRIME NEWS

  • A Springville husband pushed his wife out of the way to avoid a swerving truck on the sidewalk near 40 East and 400 South after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday—he took the truck's impact and died at the hospital—while police arrested the suspected drunk driver for vehicular homicide and additional charges.  KUTV
  • A man in Springville was killed at 6:40 p.m. after pushing his wife out of the way—saving her from a suspected DUI driver in a truck pulling a trailer near 40 East and 400 South as police arrested the driver after detecting an alcohol odor.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 4, the Utah Board of Higher Education welcomed three new members—Jeremy Hafen, Jodi Hart and student Garrett Largent—while Danny Ipson was reappointed following selection by Gov. Spencer Cox and Senate confirmation. The board will focus on strategic reinvestment plans and guide colleges through changes in enrollment and state funding.  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utah Division of Wildlife Resources launched a new self-guided birdwatching challenge called the Utah Birding Slam on Tuesday to let locals spot birds from their backyards to high-elevation areas. The challenge charges $20 for adults and $10 for those 17 or younger—fees that will support habitat improvements and research.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TJ Young used the 5 Calls app to call elected officials and share her views on local issues—now the app expands to cover the Utah legislature by giving users scripts and showing hot topics. The tool reached millions of calls and is partnering with Elevate Strategies to boost voter engagement.  FOX 13
  • UDOT said on Thursday, Sept 4th that reconstruction on the 4400 South bridge over I-15 was delayed because the FAA required study reviews (an Aeronautical Study and a Safety Risk Management study) due to the bridge's proximity to Ogden-Hinckley Airport. Officials said other project work is moving forward and overall construction will finish by summer 2026.  Standard-Examiner

  • Ainsley Griner became the first girl to join the varsity baseball team at Utah Military Academy-Camp Williams — she faced heckling from some opposing players but impressed the coach with her strong softball skills.
