ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at the Natural History Museum of Utah studied fossil remains of a large armored lizard from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and named the new species Bolg, which measured about three feet and has a unique skull that links it to ancient monstersaurs and reveals a diverse dinosaur era ecosystem.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State leaders have rebranded the next Winter Olympics as 'Utah’s Games' to show that planning and benefits will be shared by all host communities rather than just Salt Lake City, and officials say that key venues statewide—including ones in Provo—will host events for the 2034 Games. Gov. Spencer Cox and other state officials stressed that this shift will put local communities at the center of a future Olympic effort—an approach they believe will better serve all Utahns.  Deseret News
  • A Utah judge ruled that overriding Proposition 4 was unconstitutional and ordered lawmakers to adopt a new congressional map for 2026 to fix partisan redistricting that split the Salt Lake City area, following guidance from the state Supreme Court and research at Princeton. Lawmakers will now consider the independent commission’s draft maps to restore fair representation in future elections—ensuring voters have a meaningful choice.  Deseret News
