CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Condemned killer Ralph Leroy Menzies asked the Utah Supreme Court to delay his firing squad execution, arguing that his worsening dementia—evidenced by his difficulty making phone calls—requires a new competency evaluation, and Maurine Hunsaker’s family said any delay may prevent the execution entirely. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Utah legislative hearing on Wednesday, Carrie Murray Nellis—a Georgia adoption attorney who runs an agency—joined virtually to urge lawmakers to change state adoption laws amid reports that women from other states are being brought to Utah for adoption arrangements. Adoption advocates and agency representatives explained that current safeguards may be too weak and said lawmakers would study the issue further this summer. FOX 13
- ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox warned that the national redistricting fight could lead to more anger and hurt old ways of letting people vote — states should protect mail-in voting rights.
