ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Ben Abbott, a Brigham Young University ecology professor, recorded Saturday’s dust storm that moved from the Great Salt Lake into Provo-Orem and reduced visibility on rush-hour roads. Utah’s Department of Environmental Quality will add dust monitors in local hot spots as experts warn that toxic particles in the dust pose health risks. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Laura Nelson, a former energy adviser to two Utah governors (with a doctorate in environmental economics), now leads Utah outreach for the Idaho National Laboratory to explain new nuclear energy plans and state projects like Operation Gigawatt. She uses her deep skill and clear facts (she also once played with a Ramones cover band) to help the public learn about safe energy choices for our future. Deseret News

- ➤ On Monday morning, BYU was ranked No. 23 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll with 287 points after finishing with an 11 to 2 record and a No. 14 ranking last season. Utah, coming off a 5 to 7 season, received 86 points and ranked fifth among teams receiving votes—five Big 12 teams make the top 25 while four others, including Baylor, also received votes.
