Good morning, Provo. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 22nd of July.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fresh food prices in Utah grocery stores have risen a lot since 2019. Data shows that meals for a family of four now cost about $6.46 extra for chicken, $7.40 more for beef and $9.56 higher for fish — meaning families making 15 dinners each month will spend roughly $135.42 more, a 39% price jump.  FOX 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utah's water storage dropped 10% from June 1 to July 1, and the Department of Natural Resources urged residents to cut outdoor water use to preserve drinking water for the year and the future. The agency noted that a normal drop is only 2% and many cities now enforce watering restrictions—making conservation a top priority during the drought.  FOX 13

FINANCE NEWS

  • A recent WalletHub report found that Utah residents with an average credit card balance of $2,697 take nearly 11 months to pay it off - only Kentucky and Mississippi pay off their debts faster. Analysts warned that while Utah does better than most states, the payoff period still raises concerns over high interest charges.  KUTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Utah State Hospital in Provo celebrated 140 years of change in mental health care as staff and local officials reviewed its history from early harsh treatments to a modern facility that helps those with complex needs—reflecting shifts since the 1963 law. The 312-acre campus, once isolated near a trash dump, now offers secure inpatient care and training for health workers—showing its important role in our community.  Deseret News
