BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Breeze Airways announced that it will add six new routes from Provo Airport next year, with flights starting between March 11 and 19+ the new service includes routes to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and other Western cities at promotional one-way fares of $39 to $49. This expansion builds on the airport’s rapid growth since its new terminal opened in 2022 and comes as the city begins a project to increase gates from four to 10. Deseret News

- ➤ Weber State alum Chloe Kinnavongsa won first place in the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts for her work as director of photography on Peanut Butter Party’s 'The Necklace Song'—filmed in Roy, Riverdale and North Ogden Divide with director David Guerrero. She said the award validated her passion for filmmaking—pushing her to plan a documentary project with her mentor that will take her to the Philippines this fall. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Stranger Things actor Gaten Matarazzo is in Utah today to lead the CCD Smiles conference at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi—he co-founded the nonprofit with nurse Kelly Wosnik to support people with cleidocranial dysplasia—emphasizing his commitment to raising awareness for the rare condition. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congress approved cuts to federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that will remove about $2 million annually from PBS Utah, $500,000 from KUER and $200,000 from UPR, so local stations will soon reduce programming and search for new funds—officials said local stations will stay on air. Officials also warned that the funding loss may affect services like the Emergency Alert System and music rights negotiations—community support and state grants may help fill the gap. Deseret News

- ➤ New home builders cut prices by 5% on average in July, with 38% lowering home costs, a survey showed. Redfin said sellers of existing homes list fewer properties and show small price rises—causing buyers in Provo to be cautious as mortgage rates near 6.75%. Deseret News

- ➤ Timpview High School runner Jane Hedengren — a record-setter who broke several national times earlier this year — was named the 2025 Gatorade Best Female Player of the Year at the ESPYs in Hollywood on Wednesday, and she will begin competing for BYU this fall. Deseret News
- ➤ Weber High alum Connor Howe earned a sponsor exemption from the Korn Ferry Tour to compete in the Utah Championship which will be held at Ogden Golf & Country Club from July 31 to August 3. It will be his second time at the event after he made the cut and finished 15 under par when he played the last tournament at Oakridge Country Club — he tied for 36th. Standard-Examiner
