CRIME NEWS

  • Orem police arrested a 67-year-old woman at a hotel this morning after an anonymous tip led them to a room where she was seen deleting massage ads and found to lack the required license—officers recovered money and items linked to prostitution, and she remains detained as a flight risk.  ABC4

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Utah Transit Authority launched a new campaign earlier this week that shows how transit investments drive economic growth—studies found every $1 spent yields $5.11 and supports nearly 80,000 jobs. Agency and state leaders plan to expand the transit network soon along the Wasatch Front—further projects may boost development and improve service.  Deseret News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Utah health officials confirmed 10 measles cases this year in unvaccinated people in Utah County and Southwest Utah. Health experts said the MMR vaccine provides 97% protection and advised families to avoid crowded spaces if vaccination is not an option — warning that the risk remains high amidst growing vaccine hesitancy.  Deseret News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City leaders are asking developers for proposals to transform a three-acre dirt lot in downtown Provo near the old City Hall site into a mix of retail, housing, hospitality and parking structures with submissions due by August 1. Officials plan a public-private partnership — where the city provides the land upfront in exchange for parking facilities — and expect redevelopment to start within the next two years.  KUTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the past decade, BYU’s athletic department budget doubled as new rules on player transfers, NIL deals and revenue sharing from the House settlement reshaped college sports—BYU joined the Big 12 in 2023 and now expects its full conference share to add nearly $13 million to fund athlete payments and boost income from ticket sales, donations and sponsorships. This extra revenue will support the program’s efforts to remain competitive and enhance its overall financial strength.  Deseret News
  • A Provo cross country and track star, Jane Hedengren, was honored at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday alongside top athletes including Simone Biles and Saquon Barkley. She set national records at Timpview High School—recognizing both her athletic achievements and her academic and community contributions—and will run for BYU next year.  FOX 13
