Good morning, Provo. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of July.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 12, just before 7 p.m., a 12-year-old girl on an inflatable tube began drifting on Silver Lake Flat Reservoir and was assisted by 31-year-old Daniel Braga Figueiredo who grabbed a paddle board—both ended up in the water and his body was recovered around 9:30 p.m.  ABC4

CULTURE NEWS

  • Film enthusiast Trevor Allen created the Orem Film Festival to highlight local filmmakers as an alternative after Sundance leaves Utah. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Division of Water Resources said residents should water lawns three times a week with half an inch of water if needed, while those with drought-resistant lawns should water once only – watering early in the morning helps conserve water and lower bills. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday the state and Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance clashed in court over whether Utah can force Congress to sell public lands—state lawyers said no federal lawsuit is in place and a ruling will come within 60 days.  ABC4
  • The Utah Department of Corrections is preparing for the firing squad execution of Ralph Leroy Menzies — a 67-year-old inmate sentenced to death for kidnapping and murdering Maurine Hunsaker — after Judge Matthew Bates signed the death warrant, with the execution scheduled for midnight on Friday, Sept. 5.  ABC4
