  • Warren Fong, a World War II veteran and grandfather, celebrated his 102nd birthday on Wednesday afternoon at Legacy House where family and neighbors gathered to honor his long life—he enjoyed saxophone music by his grandson and heartfelt reflections on his inspiring legacy.  Deseret News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 28th around 1:30 p.m., a DNR ranger and bystanders rescued a 45-year-old paddleboarder trapped under the Trestle Bridge on the Provo River by entering the water with a knife—keeping her safe during a 30-minute effort until search and rescue and EMS arrived.  ABC4

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ruth Dubon, a BYU sous chef from Provo, won the national culinary challenge on July 8 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, showcasing a dish she had been perfecting since November (her family and friends cheered her on). She said the win means a lot as it honors her hard work and roots.  Deseret News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Results from the Gardner Institute report showed Utah's housing market was among the nation's priciest, with Draper recording a median price of $960,000 in 2024, up $121,800 from last year + prices varied widely among cities with over 40,000 residents. In Provo, the median price was $549,500.  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shannon and her son, JJ Payne, have been cleaning trash from American Fork Canyon once a week for a year after they saw too much litter on their walks. Their work has drawn help from local volunteers and groups (such as Timpanogos Hiking and Trash Panda Disposal) and they plan to keep the canyon clean.  KUTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Community Vaccine Forum released a study showing that Utah’s childhood vaccination rates are falling and that this drop raises the risk of measles outbreaks, which require between 93 and 94 percent immunity for herd protection — a trend linked to rising hesitancy and misinformation. Health groups including the Utah Department of Health and Human Services are working to counter misinformation and boost vaccination rates among school children.  Deseret News
