BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lindon-based Awardco raised $165 million in a Series B round that pushed its valuation above $1 billion. The employee recognition platform—serving over 6 million users in 163 countries—will use the funding to expand its rewards system and strengthen its marketplace.  Deseret News

CRIME NEWS

  • Attorneys for death row inmate Ralph Menzies filed a petition on Monday asking for a new competency review because his advanced vascular disease & worsening dementia have left him unable to understand his death sentence by firing squad; his case is set for a hearing today to discuss the execution warrant.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Provo city said Slate Canyon is not for sale after months of debate between developers and local residents over plans to move Splash Summit Waterpark and add retail and housing projects. Mayor Michelle Kaufusi confirmed no sale will happen without her approval — a move that many community advocates say protects a valued green space.  FOX 13

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A recent study from the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute found Utah’s housing market was the ninth most expensive in the nation in 2024, with single-family homes priced around $547,700. Gov. Cox plans to build 35,000 starter homes in the next five years—while experts warn that high mortgage costs still force many buyers to rely on two incomes.  ABC4

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jared Price, a BYU grad from Pleasant Grove, built a special bond with basketball legend Kresimir Cosic even though they never met. Price served a mission in Croatia and helped translate the Book of Mormon into Croatian — a link that ties his work in faith to Cosic’s lasting legacy in sports.  Deseret News
  • BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff remains in a holding pattern as he plans to move to another Power 4 program in August to avoid a seven-game suspension for breaking the honor code. His transfer is complicated by new NCAA rules — he might play immediately if he gets a waiver.  Deseret News
