  • Organizers of the Stadium of Fire event have hired a new vendor and added improved safety measures after nearly 30 people were injured last year at LaVell Edwards Stadium due to a firework tube defect. This year they received fire marshal permission to feature a drone show + a revised fireworks display to protect spectators.  KUTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colonial Heritage Festival is underway today at SCERA park in Orem with reenactors, artisans and craftsmen offering interactive exhibits that show life during the American Revolution—this free event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and helps visitors recall the sacrifices that founded our nation.  ABC4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Virtually all of Utah is in drought for the first time in nearly three years as 99.99% of the state falls under moderate or severe drought—dry conditions have pushed reservoirs to fill slower than usual. Recent monsoonal storms brought brief rain on July 3 while more storms and increased wildfire risks are forecast—officials urge water conservation and preparedness.  Deseret News

  • Animal experts in Utah say that on hot days, owners must give farm animals—pigs, horses and goats—more than a quick hose spray by providing shade, fresh water and vet advice to keep them safe.  Deseret News
