- ➤ David Hartle has lit Pleasant Grove’s Mahogany Mountain with his unique displays for seven years and stepped away last week after finishing his final Strawberry Days design—he said he will teach anyone interested to continue his legacy. Deseret News
- ➤ Historians from Utah Cultural Site Stewardship have spotlighted the Buffalo Soldiers who served in Utah from 1878 to 1901 and helped keep peace, prompting the creation of a 475-mile Heritage Trail. They also offer an audiobook and website to share how these soldiers played a key role in local history — a chapter that was long overlooked. Deseret News

- ➤ A BYU graduate Jane Housley partnered with the US Forest Service's Missoula Fire Sciences Lab to improve the WindNinja wildfire modeling tool by using machine learning to speed up simulations and reduce errors. Her research cut one type of error by 75 and halved the average error, results that could help fire crews predict wildfire spread more quickly. Deseret News
