CULTURE NEWS

  • Britt Stokes, owner of Stokes Auto Spa in Lindon, was chosen to join the Air Force One Detailing Team that will work from July 6-13 to preserve historic aircraft at the Museum of Flight in Seattle — his ten years of detailing experience led to his selection among 35 members.  Deseret News
  • Stacey Truman, a BYU grad and Pixar team lead working on the new film Elio, juggles her duties as a mother of three (all of her boys received production credits) while managing a key creative role in shading and grooming. She said that motherhood has taught her patience and the ability to respond quickly to challenges at work.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent WalletHub report ranked Utah 12th in patriotism, noting the state leads in volunteer metrics but scored 35th in military engagement. The report shows Utah citizens have strong civic involvement—yet their military participation lags, marking a divided measure of patriotism.  Deseret News
  • Governor Spencer Cox ordered on Monday that voters decide on a measure to repeal HB267 in the 2026 election after a coalition gathered enough signatures. Officials confirmed 251,274 signatures (meeting state rules in 23 Senate districts) and the vote is scheduled (Nov. 3) during the midterm elections.  Standard-Examiner

HEALTH NEWS

  • Provo resident Tori Ballard fights aggressive breast cancer with weekly chemotherapy, help from family and a Revere Health program—one that finds grants to cover high treatment costs. The program has raised millions to lower care expenses and support patients with their bills.  Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • AJ Dybantsa, an incoming BYU freshman, impressed coaches at Team USA's U19 training camp in Colorado Springs as he gets ready to play at the World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland starting June 28. He has won gold in earlier FIBA events and is seen as the top NBA Draft pick in 2026 — his strong play and leadership have set him apart — making him a key player to watch.  Deseret News
  • Kirsty Coventry became the new International Olympic Committee president on June 23 in Lausanne—she thanked her family and supporters for their role in her journey at the handover ceremony. Utah’s Organizing Committee for the 2034 Winter Games plans to invite her to visit soon as the state gears up to host the event.  Deseret News
