BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Lehi-based Savory Fund — a firm known for growing food brands — acquired Bonrue Bakery, a popular bakery with three locations in southern Utah, and the cofounders will remain in charge. The bakery will expand to the Wasatch Front in the coming months to build on its local success. Deseret News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, Utah public universities and colleges revealed plans under state law HB 265 to cut nearly $60 million in funding and reduce courses, staff, and programs at 16 institutions while reinvesting money in high-demand fields over the next three years—with final plans pending state board and legislative approval. - ➤ Brigham Young University was reportedly added to Russia’s 'undesirable' list on April 29—this designation bars the school from operating in the country and may lead to prison terms for individuals linked to such groups. BYU did not respond to requests for comment, and some reports suggest an event held on Feb 6 might have influenced the decision. Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 23, AstraZeneca filed a federal lawsuit against Utah Attorney General Derek Brown & Insurance Commissioner Jon Pike, saying that SB 69—which went into effect on May 7 and allows more pharmacies access to discounted drugs—expands 340B pricing in ways that violate federal limits. ABC4
- ➤ AstraZeneca sued Utah’s Attorney General Derek Brown over a state law that allows lower drug prices at more pharmacies, saying the law expands discount rules beyond federal limits. The lawsuit filed in May claims SB69 violates federal patent law, the Contracts Clause and the Constitution's takings clause. Deseret News

- ➤ BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake signed quarterback Bear Bachmeier and receiver Tiger Bachmeier from Stanford to join the team this summer, and he flipped lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu from Oregon—he is on a church mission in Colorado and will enroll at BYU before the 2027 season.
