- ➤ Mortgage applications fell for a third week as rates stayed near 7%, making it tougher for first-time buyers to find affordable homes. Utah officials are taking steps to boost the market & Gov. Spencer Cox is pushing for 35,000 starter homes by the end of 2028. Deseret News

- ➤ After Jefferson Moss resigned to lead the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the Utah House Majority Caucus held a special closed-caucus election and chose Rep. Casey Snider as majority leader, while Reps. Candice Pierucci and Bridger Bolinder became majority whip and assistant whip—posts they will serve for the remainder of the term—. Deseret News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new BYU study shows that drinking sugary beverages is linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes while sugar in foods may be less harmful. Researchers analyzed data from over half a million people and found that isolated sugars in drinks can overwhelm the liver — leading to higher insulin resistance. ABC4

- ➤ Six schools won the Deseret News 2024-25 All-Sports Awards, with South Sevier claiming its first 2A title and Timpview ending a 15-year wait (a significant turnaround for both schools); Lone Peak, Ridgeline, Morgan and Panguitch repeated as champions (winning in 6A, 4A, 3A and 1A respectively) by earning points in many state events.
