CULTURE NEWS

  • Utah Valley is celebrating summer break with a variety of community festivals that offer family fun. Eagle Mountain's Pony Express Days runs until May 30, Cedar Hills' Family Festival is in progress until June 6, and additional events in Springville, Orem and Pleasant Grove are planned for upcoming weeks.  Daily Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rocky Mountain Power is preparing for an active wildfire season and will de-energize power lines during high-risk periods, which may cause outages, and advises customers to update contact info + check backup power plans to stay safe.  Deseret News
  • All 29 counties are in severe drought and the state urges residents to reduce water use; the Utah Department of Natural Resources has set a weekly watering guide that advises no watering for Summit County and limited watering for most areas.  KUTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials of the Mountainland Association of Governments have listed a potential east-west bridge spanning Utah Lake between Saratoga Springs and Provo in its updated long-term plan. They have started a two-year study on feasibility and environmental impacts amid concerns over billions in costs.  FOX 13
  • Nate Blouin said he will drop out of the race if he is not the top progressive candidate and will commission an independent poll by June 1 to unite voters against former Rep. Ben McAdams in Utah’s redrawn district. His fellow candidates have rejected the plan.  Deseret News
