COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Utah is set to host a range of Memorial Day events including art festivals, car shows, and commemorative ceremonies across the state — with local activities in Provo and neighboring areas. In Provo, the Freedom Festival and Provo City Veterans Council will hold a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26, at the Provo City Cemetery.  ABC4

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 23rd at 11:45 a.m., a cement truck crashed near Mill Pond Rd and Pioneer Crossing in Lehi, seriously injuring one person who was then taken to a local hospital — northbound Mill Pond Rd is closed as crews clear the scene.  ABC4

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities identified local 45-year-old Dena Beal—found near the underpass at 850 East and Pioneer Crossing in Lehi on May 22 at 5:45 p.m.—and police said no foul play was suspected as her next-of-kin was notified while an autopsy and toxicology tests are pending.  KUTV
  • An anonymous woman filed a civil lawsuit against BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff, alleging a Provo police officer discouraged her from filing a sexual assault report, and former Salt Lake official Chris Burbank criticized the department’s handling of the claim. Provo police said records only showed an initial report from November 27 and no follow-up call (which the lawsuit claims involved asking for the abuser’s name) and they maintain no evidence exists of the disputed conversation.  KUTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma performed at BYU on Feb. 24 to celebrate the school's 150th anniversary & the centennial of its College of Fine Arts and Communication. The special gala was part of BYU’s 2025-26 Bravo! arts series that has previously featured acclaimed musicians such as Itzhak Perlman.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Mike Lee introduced a bipartisan bill — the Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act — to help farmers by making checkoff programs more open about spending and stopping fraud in marketing their products. The bill will require regular audits — a step to ban conflicts of interest — and is backed by groups representing 200,000 farmers.  Deseret News

  • Utah native Natalie Quinn is working hard in professional cycling as she recovers from a crash and deals with team money issues while preparing for the national championships. She rides for Cynisca Cycling — a team that gives her a chance to race in Europe — and gets help from her parents as she pushes for more support for women in the sport.  Deseret News
  • UVU’s Kennedy and Littledike combined for Utah Valley’s first combined no-hitter in NCAA play Friday at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona—delivering a 9-1 win over top-seeded Sacramento State. The Wolverines advance to today’s WAC championship game set for 4 p.m.  Daily Herald
