COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farmers markets will open across Utah this summer with the Provo Farmers Market at Pioneer Park starting on June 7 — vendors there have set their schedules. Markets from Logan to St. George will offer fresh produce and local goods — giving residents plenty of choices for buying fresh food.  Deseret News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chris Hayter of Eden leads Hi Tech Solutions as he works to bring advanced commercial nuclear power to Utah. The company and its partner, Holtec International, signed a memorandum of understanding on April 29th to build a local nuclear ecosystem that will boost jobs and supply clean power.  Standard-Examiner

CULTURE NEWS

  • At BYU Women’s Conference on May 2, Elder Quentin L. Cook explained that the phrase 'it came to pass' in the Book of Mormon shows deep meaning and spirit from ancient texts. He shared a story about a London professor who saw the phrase as proof of truth (echoing a remark once made by Mark Twain) and urged believers to study the scripture for a personal witness.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Military officials identified the remains of Lt. George F. Wilson Jr., a B-17 pilot who was lost when his plane was shot down over France on July 8, using DNA analysis—his name now appears on the Walls of the Missing at Normandy American Cemetery. He will be buried in Bountiful in July.  KUTV
  • Representatives, community advocates and medical professionals met at Provo City Hall on May 16 to form a working group aimed at reducing juvenile violence by boosting mentorship and support programs for youth—emphasizing that one caring person can help change a child's path. The group, led by Rep. Tyler Clancy, seeks to address early risk factors before serious problems develop.  Deseret News
