CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Supreme Court ruled that death row inmate Douglas Carter will have a new trial after intentional misconduct by police officers and a prosecutor tainted his 1985 trial for the murder of Eva Olesen in Provo—he spent nearly 40 years on death row. Deseret News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Provo’s Covey Center for the Arts will host North America’s debut of 'The Osmonds: A New Musical' from March 12-April 4, 2026, with preview performances on March 10-11. The production, written by Jay Osmond, will give audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the family's rise to fame and struggles — it has already received critical acclaim overseas. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Filming for Season 6 of The Chosen began on May 14 in Goshen where cast and crew will spend three weeks filming on a replica set built by the Church. The set — featuring real flames, livestock brought in each morning, and crafted stone work — impressed extras with its authenticity. Deseret News

- ➤ Utah Gov. Spencer Cox spoke at Stanford University’s Abundance Agenda forum and said he will have hard conversations with cities later this year about building more high density housing—he noted that recent legislative reforms and a review by the Wasatch Front Regional Council of plans for 15,000 housing units show a push to improve local affordability. - ➤ New federal census data showed that Salt Lake City led Utah in 2024 with about 5,950 new residents while Utah County towns such as Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, Lehi and American Fork recorded higher percentage growth. The report also shifted the ranking of the state’s 10 most-populated cities with Provo holding 115,479 residents and Sandy losing 189 residents—factors that may affect future housing trends.
