Good morning, Provo. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 13th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 10, postal workers in Utah County collected extra food donations while delivering mail and moved blue grocery sacks at American Fork and other sites to help Tabitha’s Way food pantries meet increasing local needs—an effort part of a 30-year annual food drive.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Provo native is leading work on a documentary titled 'The Sky Was on Fire: Ballet and War in Ukraine' — the film shows Ukrainian ballet dancers using performance to preserve their culture amid conflict. The 95-minute film premiered last month at a film festival and will be shown at more events this year — it highlights the bravery of artists who continue to perform under dangerous conditions.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Third District Judge Laura Scott ruled that the Utah Fits All Scholarship program violated constitutional requirements yet allowed it to continue pending an appeal — the decision dismissed two outstanding plaintiff claims and sets the stage for Gov. Spencer Cox and Attorney General Derek Brown to move forward with the legal process.  Deseret News

SPORTS NEWS

  • BYU tight end Carsen Ryan, who has one season left, trains hard this spring to make an impact and give his grandpa (Steve Downey) a chance to see him play this fall as he battles a rare blood cancer. He joined teammates for four focused practice sessions at 3DQB in Southern California to improve timing and build chemistry on the field.  Deseret News
  • On Monday, the NBA draft lottery set the stage for the Utah Jazz as leaders Danny Ainge and Justin Zanik followed a tanking strategy in hopes of landing a franchise-changing prospect. The outcome—whether it brings a top pick to fuel a strong rebuild or a lower pick to spark criticism—will play a key role in how fans judge the front office.  Deseret News
