COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Rocky Mountain Power reported an outage affecting 2,700 customers that began around 6:00 p.m. Monday in Eagle Mountain and said power was expected to be restored by 9:00 p.m. The cause remains unknown. FOX 13
- ➤ Elder W. Mark Bassett, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Seventy, died Monday from a traumatic brain injury in St. George + he had served as executive director of the missionary department since 2016. FOX 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Church said Elder W. Mark Bassett died on May 11 in St. George after a traumatic brain injury (he was 59) while with his family. He served as a General Authority Seventy since April 2016 and will be remembered for his faithful service. KUTV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Economists reported that Utah consumer sentiment fell from March to April (its lowest level since 2022) partly because of rising gas prices amid the Iran conflict, though most remain optimistic and business outlooks exceed the national average. KUTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders and advocates have rallied today to preserve the Targeted Adult Medicaid program that supplies 12 months of continuous coverage to homeless residents and parolees. Officials say the program will shift to regular coverage on July 1, 2027 + they urge CMS to approve a waiver. Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Utah health officials are preparing for the return of three local passengers from the MV Hondius cruise ship after a hantavirus outbreak; one tested positive and another is symptomatic. The state is coordinating with the CDC + local partners to ensure close monitoring and safety for returning passengers. Deseret News

- ➤ At the Atlantic Across America Utah event, Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith said the team will focus on drafting the best player available over the next 40 days and may make bold moves, praising the Ainges for their smart draft strategies. Deseret News
- ➤ Big 12 schools are not accepting RedBird’s $30M line of credit; BYU has firmly rejected private equity in its sports program while Utah did not comment on its plans.
