COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Utah Valley Chapter of Women Who Care donated $15,000 to Dine Bi Chidi during their latest quarterly meeting on Wednesday to help provide cars for Navajo families+ the group, which began with Jessica Farnsworth in 2019, now has 100 members who have raised over $190K for local charities and plans to increase its impact in the future.  Deseret News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stephen Story and his team made Modballs a bite-sized protein snack that started in a kitchen mix used by Lone Peak High tennis players for energy. The product is now sold at Costco in Salt Lake City and Lehi—other stores in Murray, Saratoga Springs and Orem will carry it soon—after three years of testing and market feedback.  Deseret News

  • Elaine Hatch, wife of the late Sen. Orrin Hatch, died Saturday at 91 with family around her, a statement from the Hatch Foundation said (she was born in Newton and went to Brigham Young University).  Deseret News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr. announced that NIH will create a new database by merging Medicare and Medicaid claims with electronic records to search for autism causes, promising some answers by September. Experts say this plan underestimates decades of research on autism genetic and environmental factors—especially as Utah saw its autism cases rise from 2.2 to 3.6 million between 2000 and 2025 and now ranks in the top 10 for autism prevalence.  KUTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • BYU receiver Chase Roberts (6-foot-4, 210-pound) said his healing is on track after tearing his left shoulder labrum during the Alamo Bowl, and he will strengthen his shoulder over the summer to be ready for the Cougars’ Aug. 30 opener. He also plans to work out with the Israeli national team and lead football camps later this month.  Deseret News
