COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, Utah County held a memorial to remember four unsheltered community members—Jimmy, Amber, Alan, and Marc—lost over the winter. Leaders from Community Action Services and the Genesis Project said volunteers now face a growing need as warming centers closed for the season and the housing crisis spurred more homelessness.  FOX 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Explosive devices were found over a week across the Salt Lake Valley as arrests on April 25 in Provo led to bombs being discovered at the Provo Mall and in an Orem apartment, and a pipe bomb was later found in Logan on April 30+ the suspects now face multiple felony charges while investigators continue their work.  KUTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Provo city officials said today that residents must recycle correctly to lower fees since contaminated recycling sent to the landfill raises costs—dumpsters at Kiwanis Park were removed after misuse. The Dry Creek Transfer Facility in Spanish Fork now handles all waste and better recycling practices will keep local costs down.  KUTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • In 2023, Utah saw 606 overdose deaths—nearly half linked to fentanyl with methamphetamine accounting for most of the rest—and law enforcement seized over 28,000 fentanyl pills during operations in West Valley City and along I-15. Author Sam Quinones warned synthetic drugs are now the deadliest and will be discussed at his upcoming Utah visit with Governor Spencer Cox during the 2025 Solutions Conference.  FOX 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • BYU basketball coach Kevin Young is preparing the Cougars for an anticipated 2025-26 season with a roster of top recruits and returning stars—each compared to high-performance cars to show their strengths. The team will open on November 3 in Las Vegas with a game against Villanova as they aim for a historic run toward their first Final Four.  Deseret News
