- ➤ Two Utah breweries won awards at the 2025 World Beer Cup on May 1. Proper Brewing Co. won gold for its rye beer and Uinta Brewing Co. won bronze for its cream ale among more than 8,000 entries judged by over 200 beer experts. ABC4

- ➤ Returning to their Utah roots, The Used will perform three nights at Salt Lake’s Union Event Center as part of their 25th anniversary tour — Saturday night they will play their self-titled debut album, Monday features In Love and Death, and Tuesday includes a third album set that reflects their journey from humble beginnings in local venues to national success. - ➤ The Sterling Scholars program began on May 3 with a plan to honor Utah high school scholars – it has grown to include more than 100 schools and expanded competitions, with live awards recognizing top students today. Deseret News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ State wildlife officials announced a new rule that will require visitors 18 and older to have a valid hunting, fishing, or combination license to access more than two dozen wildlife management areas along the Wasatch Front starting May 7 — the rule exempts visitor centers, on-duty employees and sovereign lands, and will apply only to portions of areas that span county lines. - ➤ Quarterback Bear Bachmeier committed to BYU after visiting campus Saturday morning, May 3, leaving Stanford, while his brother Tiger also transferred to join the Cougars. Bear, a 4-star prospect, is expected to compete with McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet for a backup spot behind Jake Retzlaff — a move that strengthens the team’s quarterback depth. Deseret News
