COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Utah will host many events in May that will let locals enjoy festivals, concerts, theater shows and sports games. The list includes the Tulip Festival in Lehi from May 1 to 17, concerts by Dylan Scott, Jack White and Lord Huron, theater productions like Wicked and Jersey Boys, and matchups featuring BYU and Real Salt Lake.  Deseret News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 9-year-old boy died when he was hit by a truck at 4 p.m. on April 29 as he entered a marked crosswalk at 2600 North and 900 West in Pleasant Grove, and police are questioning an older man in a white truck (with a handicap placard) who left the scene.  KUTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas Instruments is building a new $11 billion chip fab in Lehi that will produce 300mm analog chips as part of a $30 billion expansion and local suppliers are already working on site support. A new executive order created the United States Investment Accelerator to help speed regulatory approvals for projects worth $1 billion or more, supporting similar semiconductor projects across the country.  Standard-Examiner

CRIME NEWS

  • Eric Whitaker, 41, was charged with 75 counts for making, having, or using bombs Tuesday in Provo's Fourth District Court after police found 4 bombs in his car and 71 bombs in his apartment—he was detained Friday after showing a gun near Provo Towne Center Mall and is held without bail as police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lt. Col. Chris Kroeber of the Utah National Guard said a 51-acre site southwest of Camp Williams will be scanned in mid-summer for century-old munitions debris — a follow-up to past visual and instrument checks. Officials plan to use ground-penetrating equipment — to ensure the area near new housing developments remains safe.  FOX 13
  • HUD warns that 281 Utahns could lose their Emergency Housing Voucher assistance—covering half of their $2,200 monthly rent—by the end of 2026 unless Congress provides additional funds. Local housing authorities, including Provo's, are working to transition those affected into longer-term housing programs as rental costs continue to rise.  Standard-Examiner
