Good morning, Provo. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 24th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo is asking residents for input on a possible expansion as it hosted 339 performances last year compared to the typical 180—200 events, and surveys were sent to 50,000 homes to gather community views. A firm is conducting a feasibility study funded by the RAP Tax at a cost of $80,000, and the results will guide plans that could require tens of millions if the expansion moves forward.  KUTV
  • Volunteers cleaned downtown Provo as part of an Earth Day effort on Tuesday morning (April 22) by removing illegal stickers, posters and graffiti from street posts and kiosks. Local businesses like Marriott provided supplies and manpower to help keep the area neat and discourage further vandalism.  Daily Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested four suspects on April 16 in Rifle, Colorado after a long-term investigation linked multiple vehicle thefts in Utah and Colorado to a group that stole over $170,000 in property—trucks, Polaris Rzrs, trailers and a Polaris Rzr frame.  FOX 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utah City development will plant 1,000 trees at 4 p.m. Friday to celebrate Arbor Day and launch its 700-acre project for a sustainable, walkable community along Utah Lake’s eastern shore—local officials, developers, and experts will speak about how native plants and smart landscaping can boost biodiversity and improve long-term environmental health.  Deseret News
