- ➤ After more than six months of nightly shelter that served nearly 600 people and provided over 8,000 nights of warmth, the Provo warming center will close on April 30—local advocates are now showing guests community resources such as case management and housing help to ease the transition. Today, they stress that linking to these supports is key as summer brings higher temperatures and fewer shelter services. Deseret News

- ➤ A Provo woman was charged with theft + obstruction of justice and assault after police said she stole a neighbor's package and tossed items from her third-floor balcony when officers arrived. KUTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Department of Transportation will start a $140 million project late summer to improve a three-mile section of US-189 near Deer Creek Reservoir, adding a traffic light at State Route 113 and building a new road with two lanes each way. The project will also enhance the Island Beach Day Use Area — it is meant to ease traffic for local commuters — and is expected to take about two years. KUTV
- ➤ The Utah Department of Transportation is asking for public feedback on plans to extend Mountain View Corridor from Cory Wride Memorial Highway to Pelican Point on Utah Lake—this extension will add shared-use trails and could divert up to 22,000 vehicles off Redwood Road. UDOT scheduled an online open house on April 29 at 6 p.m. and an in-person meeting at Lake Mountain Middle School on April 30, and it will accept public comments through May 16. Deseret News

Spencer Cox signed an executive order on Monday to boost wildfire preparedness for the 2025 fire season—this order creates a working group from state agencies and advises Utahns to prepare emergency kits, review evacuation routes, and safeguard important documents. - ➤ Planned Parenthood Association of Utah will close its Logan clinic on April 30 and its St. George clinic on May 2 due to a freeze on Title X funds imposed by federal policy—these clinics serve thousands who rely on low-cost reproductive health care.
