EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Utah’s Third District Court ruled that the Utah Fits All scholarship program is unconstitutional because it uses tax money only for public education. Lawmakers and the Utah Education Association said they will review the decision and may appeal it as a status conference is set on April 23. ABC4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Utah District Judge Robert J. Shelby dismissed a tithing lawsuit filed by nine plaintiffs seeking refunds for hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—he ruled that the claims were barred by the statute of limitations and dismissed the case with prejudice so the plaintiffs cannot try again. - ➤ A lawsuit has been filed against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on behalf of eight international students in Utah whose SEVIS records were terminated—attorneys from the ACLU of Utah, Stowell Crayk, P.C., and immigration counsel are seeking a temporary restraining order to protect the students' due process rights. - ➤ Yesterday, the Miller family and Miller Sports + Entertainment acquired controlling interest in Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals FC, the Utah Monarchs, America First Field, and related facilities from David Blitzer in a deal reportedly valued at $600 million.
