  • College football players from Utah State, Southern Utah and BYU donated 35,000 pounds of pork to the Utah Food Bank yesterday — the donation, made through a partnership with the Utah Pork Producers Association and Daily’s Premium Meats, equals about 140,000 servings — to help families in need.  Deseret News
  • La Brioche Argentine Bakery in Orem faces closure if it cannot secure funding to build a required public restroom after the county health department ordered the removal of customer seating; the family launched a GoFundMe campaign to reach a $30,000 goal. Owner Leticia Silva, who recently had knee replacement surgery, said the bakery — a longtime community hub — now relies on local support after more than a decade of service.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Spencer Cox signed House Bill 100 earlier this week to expand free school lunch eligibility to 40,000 more students—protecting them from embarrassment and helping them focus on learning. • BYU Ph.D. candidate Suguru Onda had his international student visa revoked after authorities linked him to a 2019 dismissed fishing violation — his attorney claims this incident may have triggered the action. Onda, a father of five, is preparing for a possible return to Japan if legal efforts to let him stay do not succeed — community support has eased the transition as he explores his options.  Deseret News
  • Elder D. Todd Christofferson dedicated the new BYU Music Building in Provo yesterday in a ceremony that featured a stirring performance by the student orchestra.
