ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bystander rescued a driver whose car was stuck on railroad tracks around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12 in Springville—helping the driver escape just seconds before a train hit, with officials reporting no injuries.  KUTV
  • A citizen hero and a train engineer helped save a driver on Sunday when the car got stuck on a railroad crossing in Springville — the engineer slowed the train so the driver could escape safely before it arrived.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brigham Young University’s landscaping team won its 10th National Collegiate Landscape Competition championship in March, earning its sixth title in seven years when 60 students competed at an event hosted at Colorado State University. The team beat 57 other schools & gained scholarships and networking opportunities that expanded career paths.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eligible state employees will no longer work from home on poor air quality days starting May 7—legislators repealed the 2021 surge remote work program after traffic data showed it did not reduce road congestion. Officials said the policy change is part of a broader effort to balance remote and in-person work.  Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Davy Crockett, a 66-year-old ultrarunner from Saratoga Springs who has completed 109 100-mile races, is a leading local endurance athlete who shares his passion and history of the sport through a blog and podcast — his journey began when he transformed his life after a midlife crisis. He finished a run along the Utah Lake Parkway Trail on April 8 and now continues mentoring other runners with his record-setting accomplishments and insights into ultrarunning history.  Deseret News
