CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Oscar Diaz, 34, a repeat DUI offender, was arrested on Friday in Provo after a single-car accident in which he accidentally shot himself in the head using a friend's 9mm — police found alcohol and drugs in his car and he admitted to drinking and using meth before the crash. FOX 13
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ BYU leaders set five design elements for the new School of Medicine, including an integrated bachelor’s/medical degree pathway, a reduced-cost model, international outreach, and a plan to blend medical science with faith during a presentation at the International Society Conference on April 7 (where details were shared). Dr. Mark Ott (the inaugural dean) said the school will pursue accreditation and open its doors to 60 students in fall while emphasizing humanitarian service and research in its curriculum. - ➤ Utah Gov. Spencer Cox visited Canada and told Canadian leaders that Utah is the best place for business—he urged fellow governors to join similar trade missions to strengthen partnerships amid new tariff challenges. His delegation met with top officials to forge new ties that could lead to increased economic opportunities. Deseret News
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Six easy walking trails have been highlighted along the Wasatch Front for people to enjoy spring, including routes in Farmington, between Lehi and Orem, from Roy to Centerville, along the Jordan and Ogden Rivers, and right here in Provo. The trails (ranging from 2.8 miles to over 60 miles) require dogs to be on leashes and offer benches and picnic tables (for rest stops). Deseret News
