GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ House Speaker Mike Schultz said lawmakers are still deciding if any of the six vetoes from the 2025 session will be overridden and that a two-thirds vote in both chambers is needed by May 6. He said he will continue discussing the vetoes with members and if they do not pass today, further talks will happen next year — his comments were made in an episode set for Sunday, April 13th. ABC4
- ➤ Governor Spencer Cox led a trade delegation to one of the world’s top AI labs in Canada on Tuesday where experts praised Utah’s innovative AI regulations as lawmakers plan to invest $100 million in a new hub in Draper for university and business collaboration—efforts that could strengthen ties with global tech innovators. - ➤ UTA will launch five new bus routes and adjust existing lines starting Sunday—this includes a route connecting key stations between Draper, Herriman and Riverton, and another linking Provo Center Station with Spanish Fork on Monday. The agency will also expand its on-demand microtransit service to West Provo/Orem by adding hundreds of stops and 1.1 million service miles to serve the growing Wasatch Front. Deseret News
- ➤ The Provo City Council discussed a new ordinance that will raise water rates by 5% starting in September and change billing to a tiered system that charges more for extra water use—city officials say the move will fund repairs and meet higher operating costs. The council will vote on the measure on April 22 while Salt Lake City plans similar changes under a new state law. Deseret News

- ➤ Guard Egor Demin announced Tuesday he is entering the NBA draft and left for Los Angeles to start his workouts while he will not return to BYU, and first recruit AJ Dybantsa will begin spring classes later this month to join the team — head coach Kevin Young said the change shows how BYU builds NBA talent. The shift comes as the Cougars prepare to open the season on Nov. 3 at T-Mobile Arena against Villanova in Las Vegas. Deseret News
- ➤ Matt McCarty posted eight birdies on Friday at the Masters Tournament in Augusta and holds a score of negative five after two rounds following an early double bogey and several birdies. He won the first Black Desert Championship in Ivins in late 2024 — his first win on the PGA Tour — and is now competing against top golfers in his full season. KUTV
