CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Engels A Gutierrez Frias, 30, was arrested Tuesday at about 10:00 p.m. after a crash when he allegedly pulled a gun on another driver (the victim said he aimed it and yelled) and now faces a charge for threat of violence. FOX 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Utah are rising and remain just below the national average while higher demand and a switch to summer-blend fuel drive the increase. Prices vary by area (from $3.15 in Cache County to $3.55 in Grand County) and are expected to peak later this spring. ABC4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox signed three bills on April 4 in the Capitol Gold Room that require age checks for apps, let users control their data, and ban cellphones in class. Supporters say the laws will help keep kids safe online and allow students to focus better. Deseret News
- ➤ Local elections will take place in Utah Valley in 2025—mayor and city council seats in nearly every city are open while candidate filing runs June 2-6, with primaries on August 12 and a general vote on November 4. In Provo, Mayor Michelle Kaufusi announced she will seek a third term and faces a challenge from former Utah Rep. Marsha Judkins. Daily Herald
- ➤ Forty-one Utah lawmakers signed a bipartisan letter urging Congress to resume and expand the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act after it expired nearly a year ago to help people hurt by nuclear testing. The letter noted that lawmakers and the state delegation support ongoing talks and want Senate and House leaders to act in 2025. Daily Herald
