ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A mudslide in Spanish Fork Canyon on Tuesday night, April 1 closed both sides of the road at mile post 193 with no injuries and UDOT put up barriers—drivers are told to drive at the speed limit and be alert as warm weather may lead to more slides. Daily Herald
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Utah teenager named Sebastien River Green was arrested Monday at Provo Airport for trying to board a flight with a fake driver's license at 5:30 p.m., and he faces a forgery charge after officials found his license did not match his boarding pass and he said he bought it from a friend for $80 to buy alcohol. FOX 13
- ➤ Ricardo Trujillo Rojel, 29, went to court on Wednesday with his lawyer after being charged with killing 23-year-old Mayra Catalan-Dimas, the mother of his two children, and setting a trailer home on fire that led to an AMBER Alert on March 24 — his preliminary hearing is set for May 12. FOX 13
- ➤ Moises Vargas, 43, was arrested in Santaquin on Monday after a woman said he used her name to buy an excavator for nearly $86,000 and was charged with identity fraud (a second-degree felony) and forgery (a third-degree felony). KUTV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ In the spring, wildlife experts advise that if you find a baby bird without feathers you should safely return it to its nest—if it has feathers and is hopping around, it should be left alone unless it is in clear danger. They also warn against feeding birds or moving ducklings, as mishandling can harm them and may break state or federal laws. Deseret News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The J. Will Robinson Federal Building in Provo, which serves as the local Social Security Office and is on the National Registry of Historic Places, was put on the General Services Administration’s accelerated disposition list on Monday for potential sale to reduce costs. The GSA said it will work with current tenants and may lease the space back if sold—cutting taxpayer expenses. Daily Herald

- ➤ Realtor.com reported Wednesday that 82% of American homeowners currently have mortgage rates below 6% (expected to drop to around 75% by year's end), and Utah shows 71.9% of mortgages locked in at 4% or lower (a factor that keeps many locals from moving). Deseret News

- ➤ After 15 spring practices in Provo, BYU coach Kalani Sitake said the team will start summer conditioning while players focus on academics and finals in April+ graduation events are planned later this month.
